Those omnipresent researchers have screwed up again. Yes, following their recent discovery that (HORRORS!) chocolate can actually be good for you, researchers have now discovered that the fat content of food may well have a direct bearing on its flavor.
This appears to fine tune an earlier Ornery Reports staff conclusion that the caloric content of food actually measures its flavor. Lacking proper research facilities, we could only conclude that the more calories listed for a particular food item, the better it generally tasted. This is why, for example, there is little discernible difference to the tastebuds in eating a rice cake as compared to, say, gnawing on a cardboard box. (Note: the cardboard box has a much higher fibre content and, if ingested staples and all, can also fulfill the minimum daily requirement for certain minerals in the diet. Rice cakes cannot make this claim.) It is also why the average diner begins to drool when a waiter or waitress rolls out the dessert cart.
In defense of rice cakes, we must admit that for would-be marksmen, plinking a stationary cardboard box lacks the challenge and excitement one gets from attempting to hit a smallish, circular disc tossed into the air, especially in high wind. Too, there is something emotionally satisfying in blowing to smithereens something your doctor has recommended that you eat. And, if properly painted or laquered, rice cakes do make excellent coasters to protect wooden furniture from those annoying beer can rings.
On the other hand, beer cans can be both set up or thrown for target practice and their contents are much more enjoyable than rice cakes.
