6 Ways to Perk Up
Feeling down? Feeling blue? Well, come on in because this article is for you! Ten great ideas to help you perk up and start feeling better today!
# Smile more often
Smiling works wonders, it really does. It makes you and everyone around you feel better. A smile breaks the ice in a room full of strangers. A smile puts people at ease and makes them feel welcome. Try smiling even when you don't feel like it. You'll see, it does make a difference.
# Believe in Yourself
Build your confidence. Stop saying "I can't" and start saying "I can." Don't let opportunities pass you by because you are afraid of failure.
So many times we don't pursue our dreams because we worry about failing or about what others might think or say. We doubt that we have any talent or skill so we do not even bother to try. We worry about how we look or sound to others. We are concerned with the image others may have of us. Thoughts of doubt and fear run through our minds bombarding us with "What ifs."
"What if I'm not good enough?" "What if I make a mistake?"
So what? We are all humans; we all make mistakes. None of us are infallible. We need to stop listening to those intruders (doubt and fear) and listen to ourselves. Listen to your inner wisdom. Remember, doubt and fear are the great destroyers. Learn to have confidence. Believe in yourself.
# Do some soul-searching
This is something that we all need to do from time to time, like cleaning out the closets in our homes. We need to take a look at ourselves realistically and make a list of our best qualities and a list of qualities that we would like to change or improve. Most of the time traits that we dislike in others are usually ones that exist within ourselves. It's much easier to see flaws in others than to see them in ourselves.
For starters, pick one thing that would like to change about yourself and work on improving it. You can and you will. You believe in yourself.
# Be Romantic
Romance is always a great way to perk up your life. It's easy to be romantic because it's the little things that count the most. When you give flowers, it doesn't have to be a dozen of roses; as single rose can have just as much meaning. Picking a handful of daisies can be romantic. Pizza by candlelight can be even more fun than a full course catered meal! You can send a note, an e-mail or just make a call; there are so many ways to say you care. Use your imagination! Even if you're not romantically attached, you can still have a vase of flowers on the counter or eat a meal by candlelight.
Practice. You never know who you'll meet!
# Adopt a Pet
I know pets might not be for everyone or circumstances may prevent some from having a pet, but if you like animals, a pet could be the perfect perk for your life. Animals are loyal and loving and bring much joy into a person's life. Although cats and dogs are the classics, there are many pets to choose from. If you love the outdoors, a dog that you can walk with might be right for you. If you are more the stay at home type, a cat may be your choice. If you want a low maintenance pet, perhaps you may prefer a hamster, a bird, or some goldfish. If you choose a pet you will be rewarded with much love.
# Take a class; develop a hobby
Learn something new. Find something that interests you and learn all you can about it. Practice and develop your new interest. Make a hobby of it. Choose something that you enjoy doing. Choose something that helps you relax. There's no pressure, because you're learning and developing your skill at your own pace, in your spare time. Be creative.
If you are not sure of what you would like your hobby to be, try a few different ones. When you find the one that is right for you then you can concentrate your efforts on your chosen one. And of course, you can always have more than one hobby.
